Recently saw a post that had a lot of interest about how a lot of people lost their rod. Here is my version of the rod leash that I like cause it is low profile around the rod and reel with minimal interference when casting.

Here is how well it holds and the parts to make it.

Here is the recap and some pics.

Parts:

- 6" Gear Tie ( Qty. 2 from REI or Bass Pro - $5 ish)
- Paracord ($3 for 50' at Home Depot)
- Velcro tie ($5.50 for qty. 50 at Home Depot)
- Carabiner ( I prefer small ones)

Can't be said enough .........

Body of Parkville kayaker recovered from Gunpower Falls

June 16, 2013|By Pamela Wood, The Baltimore Sun
Emergency responders on Sunday recovered the body of a 26-year-old kayaker who had been reported missing a day earlier.
The body of Daniel Travis Deamond of Parkville was pulled from the Gunpowder Falls near Belair Road in Kingsville at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Brian Albert, a spokesman for the Natural Resources Police.
Deamond and a friend had been kayaking Saturday when Deamond ran into trouble at the bridge, Albert said. The river flows through four archways under the road. Deamond's kayak rolled under a pile of brush and debris that had collected in one archway from the recent storms, Albert said.
The State Highway Administration brought in a crane on Sunday to remove debris so crews could reach his body.
A member of the Kingsville Volunteer Fire Department's swift-water rescue team pulled Deamond's body from the water. Teams from Baltimore County's police and fire departments and the state Natural Resources Police also assisted in the recovery.
Deamond's body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, but foul play is not suspected.
Deamond was not wearing a life jacket, Albert said.

We only had a few days to fish due to bad weather, but the canoe, kayak and dock produced some nice catches at out cottage in Northern Ontario Canada (you may be able to visit the cottage just IM me). Sadly, while I got the catching going, the ladies soon started kicking my fanny. The clown colored minnow did most of the damage (and a crocodile spoon for the wife's pike). Check out the bent hooks on my daughters lure after the biggest pike.
Weather the next 5 days looks real good...

Fished the bridge today after work with Redfish. Thunderstorms cleared out so we were able to get a few hours of fishing. Caught a 23 and missed a nice feeesh who snapped my line. Redfish ended up with 25 and a fat 32. Also, caught some nice croaker up to 13inches. Fish were caught live lining spot and perch. Spot are still pretty scarce but they should arrive in good numbers in the next couple weeks.

I am interested in purchasing a map card for my fish finder. I own a Hummingbird 587 DI HD and I am pretty sure I found the card that is compatible for my unit via the Hummingbird website:

Navionics® HotMaps® Premium 2D Lake Maps -- East

My questions are:

Do lake maps only include lakes, or they also include all the creeks and coast lines related to the area? (I hope this isn't a dumb question)

The most current map card I can find is a 2010...I know they are updatable for a year for free, but do they sell current 2012/2013 chips?

Are there other manufacturers other than Navionics for the Hummingbirds?

Any general advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. I have done my research on various search engines and forums...it's become a vicious circle!

Upon my return the manager came to the dock and said they were not allowing anymore kayak launching.

Many of our members have met or at least heard of Woody Tillery, the owner of Maryland Tackle. For years, Woody has been making outstanding lures that really catch fish. My favorites are his spinner baits tied with feathers rather than hair. This morning I used one of his 1/16-oz feather spinners to catch about 50 perch.

Woody wrote to the members of the Severn River Rod and Keg Club this afternoon advising us that he is closing his business due to health reasons. :( :(Several local tackle shops carry his lures, but it sounds like once they sell out, no new inventory will be available. I was prescient enough to buy up quite a few of his feather spinners in 1/16-oz and 1/8-oz size two winters ago. They will last me several seasons at least. If you want to try his products, you are advised to visit a local tackle shop soon and buy them before they are gone.

I know that some of our members make similar spinnerbaits for their own use and to give to friends. I have been the beneficiary of one generous member and have put his lures to good use many times. There will now be a vacant commercial niche out there for any one who can make a good small spinnerbait product. One inexpensive spinnerbait that I have used with good results is the Strike King Microking in 1/16-oz size. It is not nearly as pretty as Woody's lures, but it does catch fish. For some inexplicable reason, the Strike King Miniking in 1/8-oz size has not done as well for me.

I ordered the elite 4x dsi and come to find out west marine will have the elite 5 dsi gold on sale soon for $299 which is only $100 more then I paid for the 4x dsi. I got the 4 with out gps bc I am a bigger guy and though I would have a hard time getting to the unit to switch screens and was planning on getting a Garmin 78 hand held gps. For the people that have a trident 13 do you think a 5in screen would be better or is a 4in screen ok? Also do you think the gps in the uint would be worth the hard time switching screens or marking way point or would the hand held be a good way to go.
