On Friday the 26th I have the day off so I head to the local lake to chase some green bass. My go to presentation when the water is under 45 degrees is a jig and craw worked slowly on the bottom. The water yesterday, despite the warming trend, is only 40 degrees.
Black&Blue 3/8th ounce Football Jig with a Tiny Paca Craw trailer:

Typical for winter fishing you do not catch numbers but the bass are usually better fish. I manage to catch two nice bass, one was a 17" fish and then this better one below which I was quite happy with.

The presentation in cold water is to make your cast and let the jig sink all the way to the bottom. Then let it sit still for 10-15 seconds. Drag it forward 6-10 inches then let it sit again for 10-15 seconds. Repeat that all the way back to the kayak. I will usually anchor up in 15 feet of water and work 360 degrees around the kayak. 15 feet deep with deeper water in close proximity is a good depth to start with on this particular lake.
So today with what appears to be the last day of the warming trend I decide I need to get back out there. Sounds like winter is coming back in 24-48 hours.
and this one pops the jig! Only fish for the day but this feels like the perfect way to cap off my 2014 fishing season.
