Awhile back I went ahead and upgraded my battery storage, from being open in the back of my milk crate to a Plano 1460 box and deck fitting. What motivated this was due to an electrical short coming from the two leads leaving the battery. I fish a lot of brackish water and the salt and sun broke down the insulation of the the positive and the negative leads. Got hot quick and branded finger and thumb trying to pull the wires off of the battery.
Now the wiring that is exposed to the elements is better suited for the exposure and the fittings I used work well. I located the socket on top of the box just for ease of access, it is a little tight, you have to remove the dust cap to raise an lower the handle. The Plug and Socket area "Hella Water Resistant Plug and Socket" (the most expensive item of this project).
This is the second season using it and no problems other than checking that the set screws are tight at the beginning of each season on the plug and socket.
