  • Holy perch

Wonder if there are any other franken-perch out there...trying to stop day dreaming about a sled ride from a fish like this.

That's pretty crazy. The world record for a European perch is 6lbs, 6oz from Finland. There have been studies showing how fast perch grow and how big they get if they turn cannibalistic. I guess that's what happens when you have a pond filled with perch and no bass. It's like Highlander for fish--there can be only one.

Unfortunately, given the history of high fishing pressure for perch in the Bay, I fear a beast like that is unlikely, but you never know. Plus, I think the mid-Atlantic area is a bit warm for them to grow optimally.

Hey guys .......... take a REAL close look at the picture ........... that perch is really nice but I think it's 14 - 15 inches .......... I've caught perch that big in Long Arm Lake years ago .........

How can I say that ........

First the guy's arms are almost straight out ........ close to the lens of the camera making the fish look very large ........

Second, look at the 2 fingers by the back end of the fish and compare it to the rest of the fish .......... the fingers measure 1/2" on the screen and the total length of the fish is 4.5 " ............ my 2 fingers (which should be about the same size as the guy in the pic) measures 1 1/2 " in real life which is a 3 to 1 ratio ........ 4.5 x 3 = 13.5" ......... I'll say 15 incase his fingers are larger .......

You're right, but that's still a 5lb 15oz perch. It held the record in Britain for awhile. I couldn't find a length for it though. It's still probably close to 6-7x heavier than any yellow perch I've ever caught.

If that's 5 lb 15 oz then I'm wrong ........... didn't see any reference to that in the previous post ........... I'm definitely wrong then ........ probably 18-20" ..........
