I got caught in Chinoteague Bay 4 miles out from my launch when an unexpected 40 mph wind got up in a matter of minutes...obviously I survived the experience but it is not one I would ever wish to repeat...long distance jaunts across open water is possible in ideal conditions...on some really nice days you could fish the Chesapeake Bay in a 12 foot Jon boat...but it is rarely ideal conditions and even under ideal conditions- they can change quickly into less than ideal without any warning...8 miles out in the Bay from the nearest launch is beyond my comfort zone...No matter how you slice it it is a 2 1/2-3 hour trip one way...6 hours of pedaling under ideal conditions- add in tides, winds, waves, boat traffic...just not my cup of tea...

Yeah 8 miles one way is no bueno for a paddle yak. Pedal though is different. I covered over 20 miles in my paddle yak this weekend, with favorable winds, I think 15-20 over the course of a day would be exhausting but do able

A few made their way up close to PLO- The Target ship has been the worst kept cobia secret over the years although the US Navy usually runs folks off a few times a week for gunnery practice...

Nearest launch is point lookout. Its about 8 miles to it. Gotta be very careful, its past the shipping channel. Straight east from point lookout.

How far of a trip is that from the nearest launch for a kayak? I've heard of it but I've never seen it/fished it. I was wondering why you've been posting less and less in the forum, and I agree, people can be very opinionated (myself included). I might be coming down to southern MD a few times this year to fish, I will contact you if I do, the spot you let me fish at last summer was great! I think I caught my first keeper rockfish there, but from then on, the magothy and the severn kept producing keepers for me, so I never ventured farther south. Thanks again for letting me fish there.

Im in calvert now, but still have access to that spot. Fished there once this year but tons of jellies all over. If you add me on facebook and instagram you can see all my catches there. Been slaying it.

Seems like you got a lot of opinions... not about transporting fish...

If you ever go down to FL to fish the pelagics they use one of the very large cooler bags that strap to the front of the yak. You can look some up by Reliable Fishing or ice Mule. if the fish doesn't fit, just leave the tail hanging out. But these get expensive, and are mainly used to keep fish cold for 6 hours+ of florida heat.

But realistically around here, you won't be too far from shore and it won't be too hot when the big rocks are around. So you can just kill it, strap it to the back of your yak, and head back to shore.

Exactly. But its getting warm out now. Strapping a fish on the yak will draw bugs in. Been there. You dont want that.
