Hello all, it's the budget prep time and water access funding is fizzling out. The tentative budget just finishes out projects that were already in the works. New projects look like they're stalled out. PLEASE
If you live in Anne Arundel County:
1) send an email to County Executive Steuart Pittman expitt99@aacounty.org AND your County Councilmember (how to find your Councilmember and his/her email address below) and ask them to put public water access funding in the budget, especially public boat ramps and public swimming beaches AND
2) if you can, attend one of the 7 Budget Towns Halls and speak for water access funding. There are 6 left (I went last night to District 1). The Budget Town Hall schedule is at the end of this message. The Budget Town Hall for District 6 (Annapolis and around) is tomorrow/ Thursday, 1/9/20, and it would be swell to get some people to speak up.
Thank you, more later. Talking point suggestions below, as well as the
Oh, and someone asked me why I, a kayaker, want public boat ramps. First is that we have 9,000 trailered boats registered in Anne Arundel County. The second is that when the county builds a public boat ramp, a put in for kayakers will goes with it. Third and really important, the county can get state Waterway Improvement Fund money for public boat ramps and it's a lot easier to get a project through when there is money coming from the state.

Water Access Advocates, January 2020
The next few weeks are a critical time for your future access to the public waterways in Anne Arundel County. There are 7 budget town halls to hear your priorities for the next County budget. Details on how to FIRST email your elected officials and SECOND attend budget town halls below.
County Executive Steuart Pittman and Council members need to hear from you!
* They don’t know how absurdly inadequate our water access has been.
* They don’t know that 80% of the people in Anne Arundel County do NOT live in waterfront homes or water-privileged communities and still PAY storm water fees and flush taxes to improve water quality even though we DON’T get to enjoy the water with safety and convenience. We are all paying to clean up the Bay and we should all get to enjoy the Bay!
The current county budget is a slow wind-down of projects proposed in the last few years. It contains:
* NO funding for improvements to woefully inadequate public access to the Severn River, Magothy River and South River
* NO funding for addressing a well documented shortage of public boat ramps
* NO funding for needed public swimming beaches
They need to hear from you. Tell them you want safe, convenient water access to:
* Swim, fish, launch a trailered boat, kayak, stand up paddleboard, kiteboard, windsurf, build sand castles, take your children and grandchildren to the beach, sit & look & listen to the beauty of the water or whatever else YOU enjoy
Mr. Pittman has declared County Government “a tool in our efforts to protect what we have been given, and to ensure that it is available to all”. Let’s challenge him to make that pledge a reality!
FIRST: Email your County Council member and County Executive Steuart Pittman. Here’s how:
County Executive Steuart Pittman: expitt99@aacounty.org
How to find your County Council member:

SECOND: Attend a Budget Town Hall and speak up for water access! The schedule for the 2020 Budget Town Halls is at the end of this message.
You can attend any Budget Town Hall; you are not restricted to your home district town hall.
You have paid for years to acquire public waterfront properties and clean up adjacent waterways. It’s well past time for you to have safe, convenient public water access.
