When I was in Tampa during January I fished with a kayak fishing guide named Neil Taylor of Strike Three Kayak Fishing http://www.strikethreekayakfishing.c...s/default.aspx. Neil is a retired professional baseball umpire and has lots of great stories. The area had just suffered a red tide as well as a cold snap. Although Neil worked hard and showed me many fishy spots, the bite was not happening that day. But I was impressed with his knowledge and skill.
I have another business trip to that area in two weeks. I made arrangements with a fishing buddy from Oklahoma who is attending the same meeting as me to fish with Capt Neil a full day on Fri April 12 and during the morning on Sat April 13. My friend told me this morning that he mixed up his dates and promised to take his wife to a concert in Oklahoma City that Sat night. When he told her he was going to be fishing with me in FL that day, he got more than an earful from her (I saw her email note -- it was blistering ). He has opted to cancel the fishing and remain home with his wife. So now I have a day and half of charter by myself (which I don't mind). But if any MKF members want to try fishing in a different location to target specks, reds, and snook, plus other local species, I would be happy to share the charter.
Here are the logistics. I will fly into Tampa on Thurs April 11 arriving about 2:00 pm. I have a rental car reserved and have a suite (two full size beds and a fold-out couch) at a La Quinta Inn about 20 mins away for Thurs and Fri nights. You would need to arrange your own air transportation. You could share the hotel with me or get your own room at your discretion. After fishing on Sat morning, I need to drive south to Sarasota and would not be heading back to the airport. You would need your own transportation to get back to Tampa or your hotel.
Neil provides the kayaks, life jackets, and all fishing equipment. You will need to bring your own sun protection gear, snacks, drinks, and camera, and will need to purchase a Florida fishing license. We will be primarily in waters less than waist deep.
I recognize this is short notice and does require more than local travel. But if anyone has the time, money, and interest, you are welcome to join me.
