So....after having my first kayak for almost two weeks I finally had a window of opportunity to take her out. While catching a 40"+ Rockfish is my ultimate goal, I thought for my first time paddling I would leave the rods at home and get a feel for my new boat. I launched from Carrs Wharf in Edgewater on the Rhodes river around 5:30pm. When I pulled in, there were about a dozen or so people fishing and crabbing on the pier and I thought, "well great, I'll probably get about 20 feet out and turtle this thing.", but I remembered reading ronaultmtd's post this morning about keeping my head in the centerline of the kayak and so I did. I had a blast. First off, Carrs Wharf will always be a sentimental spot for me, it was the first place that I had ever fished when my grandfather use to take me there over 40 years ago. I can still remember him having to pull me out of the water by the back of my overalls when I leaned over just a little too far. Well I didn't need anyone to pull me out today and I paddled around for about 2 hours. Although my Cobra Navigator felt very stable and I even got up the nerve to sit side saddle. lol. I wasn't ready to try much more. I'm going to try to get out tomorrow and bring a rod with me. I think I'm ready.
Here's a couple of pics I took. Not the greatest quality on a camera phone in a waterproof case, but I don't care...I finally got out there!
