Susqy = great yellow perch fishing

I went out on new years eve, got there around noon with Toadfinger. We launched at a small marina in Perryville. While the river was relatively ice free, we had to break up some ice at the boat ramp. The two of us got around 200 fish jigging them in 30-50 feet of water. 1/8 oz jigs with pink curly tail grubs right on the bottom. Plenty of fish in the 10-11" range.
We went back out Sunday 1/2, the fishing was a little slower, I'm sure we caught over 100 though. The weather was a little colder but all the ice was gone. The yellows should be active there for a couple more months. If you can get ice free water, there should be no problem getting fish.

Yeah, they should be staged to move up to spawn. I am counting on a few yellow perch and pickerel to count for my January fish. Of course, I am not counting on 200. That was a good day. You must have found the honey hole.

Yea ive been reading some reports on ultimatebass and the like about the susky right now. looks like its going off. shawn kimbro also posted a report about fishing for perch on the susky friday. im assuming it was you guys he saw on the kayaks out there?

Nice fishing Jim! You've got January checked off really well. Now that the holidays have passed I'm getting the itch to fish! Well, it never really goes away...

Is that area considered tidal? MD/VA reciprocal licensing allows those of us with VA licenses to fish any MD tidal waters. Thanks.

A friend of mine when fishing in that same area on Saturday and sunday with another kayaker and he told me the same story. 200 fish on the bottom and slightly slower on sunday. Makes me want to go if there is a good weekend.

john u better check that, i know my MD bay sport licence was no good for Va coastal waters, i had to get an out of state saltwater licence for the surf and rudee inlet and this year Md has implemented a coastal licence with the MD bay sport licence

You should have been ok w/Rudee but I'm not sure about the oceanside ......... MD is reciprocal w/VA

no rudee is not the chesapeake it goes straight into the ocean, had no problem at lynnhaven inlet even got checked by Va fish cops. MD has changed things this year and a lot of fisherman are unaware and are not going to like the changes.

mdmak - I saw kimbro out there sunday and spoke with him as he was pulling his boat out. didn't see him there friday.

moc - If your friend is steve, he's toadfinger on this board and the guy I went with. We didn't see any other kayaks out there sunday.

The rule book says, under Reciprocal Tidal Licenses "Chesapeake Bay-any portion of the Chesapeake Bay and tidal tributaries... Atalntic Ocean-the reciprocal agreement will be revised to include the Atlantic Ocean, Coastal bays and tributaries."

So take from that what you may. Sounds like if you have a Maryland Bay and Coastal license you can fish Virginia bay and tributaries and just the other way around. Sounds like the coastal areas will be the same. (Page 35 of the MD Fishing Guide.)

very good at least that is a good regulation. no we can flounder on the eastern shore of Va with out getting a Va licence and vice versa.

got my licence on line so i have to pick up a new code of regulations next time i hit a tackle shop, maybe BPS will have them

I see a bunch of stuff here about VA but what about Delaware. I have a condo in Delaware and buy a license for De. last year purchased a 5 day non residence license. I go there about 5 times a year and could get a little pricey. it would be nice if DE recognized md and allowed a reciprocity. Anybody with a clue on this

chris and i are considering commiting suicide and heading up to the susky sunday. where are people launching from up there? and what are they baiting up with on the dropper rigs? are people just driving around looking for fish on FF's or what?
