On Tuesday, I knew I was going to make a trip to Charles Town WVA and then to Berryville VA. and would be crossing the Potomac near Harpers ferry. SO, I loaded the yak for the trip. On my way back, I went into Brunswick, finally found the launch and fished in the bright sunshine in the middle of the day. What a nice, beautiful piece of water. Very fast current, but I paddled upstream a few times, fished my way down and landed 6 smallies - a couple were pretty nice!
This morning, got up early. Kayak etc. loaded the night before. Pouring down rain.
After a quiet debate with myself, went up to Conowingo anyway.
Of course one of the local experts (a young man in his 20's I would say), looked at me, shook his head and said "You need to be on the water at first light"! He had his limit of rock and was done for the day.
ANYWAY, I put in.......threw the rattletrap around. Hooked into the biggest SMB I have ever hooked into! Didn't quite make into the boat but it was awesome. Then a huge pearch, then a 25" channel cat and another smaller channel cat. (catfish filets in the fridge)
No rockfish again.....must be that first light thing.....but a nice morning - Even though I was drenched!!
FYI, I might be looking to do something Sunday morning. Maybe a little more exotic....a little saltier maybe???
