  • Cruise Ships on the Patuxent

A Solomon's resident and his group, Global Maritime Solution (GMS), are hoping to lease 50 acres of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station’s Recreation Annex in Solomons to build and operate a cruise ship terminal.

They claim it will bring loads of money to the area and create hundreds of new jobs.

I imagine they will tear up the shoreline with new construction and re-development. They will create new restrictions regarding boating traffic due to 1000' cruise ships venturing in and out a couple times a week. And of course, you just know, that there will be some kind of "accident" in which one (or more) of these ships will leak fuel, oil, or septic waste into the mouth of the Patuxent.

That area was already used for large ships...naval warships. I am not opposed (St mary's county resident) in the least.

I can remember when they built that bridge. The whole reason it is so tall was to have a port up river. I guess some 38+ years later they are getting around to it. I do have to agree that at some point they will screw up and dump something or other in the river.

Oh,and think of the extra traffic on rt4 and 2. That should be fun.
