  • June Anne Arundel Water Access Committee Meeting: June 11, 2014 @ 6pm

    Hello all,

The June Anne Arundel County Water Access Meeting is on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 6 pm at the DPW building at 445 Maxwell Frye Road, Severna Park MD 21108. Please come.

Jonathan Doherty from the National Park Service Chesapeake Bay will tell us about NPS progress towards new public water access points. Please bring your wish lists for Anne Arundel County and the whole Bay. We are on the water and actually know what's happening at the waterline.

We will also review local water access projects. Tell us your experience using the water access points.

    See you there,

    Lisa

Anne Arundel Public Water Access Committee Meeting

    Wednesday, June 11, 2014

6pm at the DPW facility, 445 Maxwell Frye Road, Millersville MD 21108.

Jonathan Doherty, Assistant Superintendent, National Park Service Chesapeake Region, will report on progress toward the creation of 300 new public access sites to the Chesapeake by 2025.

    Review of local access projects

The Chesapeake has horrible public access. Bay-wide the NPS estimates 98% of the Chesapeake’s shoreline is off limits to citizens that don’t own waterfront homes or live in water-privileged communities. Those excluded number in the hundreds of thousands in AA County alone. In a county of more that ½ a million residents, there are no public boat ramps or public beaches offered by our county government.

Change is coming. AA County has recognized the problem and cited it as the #1 recreation deficiency. An aggressive improvement plan has been adopted thru the joint efforts of the AAPWAC & AA R&P. An inventory has identified dozens of publicly-owned waterfront locations that can be made available with minimal time & expense.

Please share this notice with friends and ask relevant organizations to include it on their calendars.

    Mike Lofton, Chair
Anne Arundel Public Water Access Committee

We're also going to talk about the plan to open Franklin Point State Park. It's the old Deep Creek Airport in Churchton between Shady Side and Deale.

Full agenda below. These meetings move right along. After the last meeting some of us went to Gina's Cantina down the road for dinner.
