My buddy and I launched around 730 on the Patuxent and primarily fished one of the creeks attached to the main river.
The plan was to try fishing the outgoing tide and ran into a guy who said he ran into a school of ~14” red drum that morning. We primarily threw a 1/4 oz chartreuse maribu roadrunner with a red head.
It was pretty slow for most of the morning with only white perch biting. I did break off under a dock immediately early on but not sure if it was something with teeth or just barnacles slicing through line.
We didn’t start finding the drum until around 11 and hooked landed hooked a few from anywhere around 3’-6’ water depth. All were undersized.
My friend also landed a 17” striper on a small paddle tail.
Overall a pretty successful trip when compared to some of the other days we fished on the lower Bay Area this summer! Still learning how to fish in these waters.
