  • Shore based bluegill

Our local community pond is still 2/3rds frozen but I couldn't sit inside and let this beautiful day go by without dunking a jig and crappie chunk to see if I could scare up a bite or two. I pulled on my rubber boots and slogged my way through the muck to the open water (I felt like I was walking in a bog). After about 45 minutes there was a very half hearted pull on the bobber and I gently set the hook. A very nice bluegill bigger than my hand was on the end. First fish since late January and it brought a big smile to my face. Stayed another 45 minutes or so with no other action, but given the conditions I'm happy.

Headed off to Costa Rica next Saturday for both kayak and off shore fishing and it feels great to go down there with the skunk off the month. Hoping I can hook into a nice roosterfish from a kayak.

I think that whole bluegill story was an elaborate ruse for you to rub your Costa Rica trip in our face! Well Done!

Good luck down there, take lots of pictures!
