Cold morning at Fletchers...went ahead and rented a boat at 7am sharp. Didnt want to have to deal with the cold weather gear etc this time so no kayak today. Caught only 5 Hickory over 4 hrs. The action was slow but these are big fish. Biggest Hickory I have caught. Not sure if they always run a bit bigger in the early run...? No American shad. One guy jigging for stripers had no luck. Water clarity was almost two feet which is great for Fletchers. Great time.

Beautiful colors. So sad that I have been in the DC area since 97, worked in DC for the past 12 years, have bought a DC license and never been to Fletchers yet...I've been to the tidal basin twice, disappointed both times. Thanks for sharing.Hobie Outback

jbrown - All 8 hickories I caught yesterday (4-15-15) were nice females loaded with eggs like the one you caught in photo #6. I just wish I caught a dozen more
clm - Right now most of the action in the DC area is found at Fletchers. Give it a try if you are still in the DC area. Warning though... roads leading to the entrance to Fletchers have one-way reversing traffic patterns during weekday morning/evening rush hours. First time visiting Fletchers I suggest going on Saturday or Sunday to learn the ropes of getting there. On the weekends traffic patterns are much more driver friendly.Howard

So true about that crazy road. You have to pull way over to the right and back down the entrance. Frightening during the day, but most folks seem to be aware this is happening...I just positioned my car where there was a long break in the traffic. Even more frightening is the middle lane converts to opposite direction traffic in the late morning. I found myself on the correct side of the road, but going the wrong direction!- Scared the s**t out of me!. Just go with the flow.
