  • Monday Morning Madness

Two of us had off today so we met in the parking lot at 5:30 am and pulled out at 10:00. It was another pretty good day. I managed 8 bass this morning and assume my buddy had similar results. I wasn't always in sight of him and when we met up from time to time we reported similar results.

On the bank about 5:50 after loading up and rolling down the trail. The morning was gorgeous and there was no wind what so ever.

    My biggest today. 6 1/2#

    My buddies biggest today. 4#

We have had a great couple days with some really large bass.

    Indeed you have.

What techniques and baits have worked the best for you?

Wacky rigged Sencos and spinner baits along grass edges. I wouldn't sell my lucky spinner bait for $50 at the moment. It has probably pulled in 25 lbs of bass for me on the last two trips. It has gold willow leaf blade and is chartreuse in color. I added a smaller purple skirt under the factory skirt and its followed up with a white twister tail as a trailer. This spinner bait has pulled the largest fish on the past two trips and both were over 6lbs. I will say most people would concentrate on all the lilies in this pond but all of the bigger fish have been in open water in grass pockets.

I want an eight pounder by the end of the season. I suspect this pond has some as my group has pulled in 4 bass at 6# in the past 7 days. It's been on fire there this week and has been exceptional. The grass has thinned out in the past three weeks and we are taking advantage of it. Believe it or not but the heaviest fish we have weighed this week wasn't the longest.

These big bass are the exception and not the norm but we have managed about 10 bass at 4# or better in the past two trips.

The average bass is like this from 1-2lbs.

          willf650,

          Thank you.

Your observation about the lilies is correct. That's certainly where I would have started.

I noticed your photos were not close to the shoreline vegetation.

          You read the situation well.

I'm sorry but this body of water is not one I'm going to disclose. It is on public property but I'm not going to advertise it

It gets too much traffic as it sits now for its size.

Understand that. The few small lakes around me get pounded year round too
