  • Mattawoman Creek Questions

    Hey all -

I'm tired of waiting for really warm weather to be a regular occurrence so I'm planning a trip to Mattawoman. I'm stir-crazy after being cooped up with the kids all winter and I need to get out but I've never fished it this early in the season, the few times I've been has been in the summer/fall. I'm planning to put up past Slavin's launch because I don't have pedals and I'm feeling lazy. I'm just curious what I should expect... are the pads up yet? starting?

Any recon info or even baits/tips would be appreciated...

I was down there about 3 weeks ago and I didn't even see a hint of vegetation. I know we've had some warm spells and it doesn't take long to get things growing so that may have changed. Hopefully someone whos been there more recently can chime in.

I'm right near you at 648/Rt10, Slavins is one of my preferred launches (and I have pedals) you can get on some really nice SH & Catfish down there.

As the tide went down, I could see the vegetation peaking out of the water on Saturday.

Thanks for the replies guys! I appreciate the recon/assist! Looks like I'm heading down Sunday morning to fish up above Slavin's... hope weather forecasts only swing in our favor!

I may see you there - I have a future-neice birthday party at noon, so I may be on the water super early and be pulling out by ~ 1030.

I went to Mattawoman this morning and caught catfish from 24 inches to 31.25 inches, along with 3 white perch. I was there until 12 noon.
