  • Mattawoman Creek Blue Catfish

I fished Mattawoman Creek and targeted blue catfish. I experimented with different baits to see which one would work better. I didn't have time to pick up some fresh bunker, so I used what I could find in my freezer and what was in my tackle box. I used white perch, bluefish fillets, brined squid, and catfish bubble gum. The bite was on right away when the tide was moving. It pretty much shutdown as soon as the tide went slack. As soon as the tide started moving a little, the bite was on again.

Even frozen bunker is my go to bluecatfish bait...and with moving water I never use corks on my fish finder rigs...it seems to work better for me in calm water but I get two to one ratio bites on the straight fish finder rigs over the cork float rigs in moving water...and at Mattawoman without moving water it is pretty doubtful you will catch anything.
