.. of trying to fish in Western Maryland this year? We are 4" short of the yearly rain total already and 4 3/4 months to go still. Got 1" of rain 2 days in a row for Tuesday and Wednesday this week. The aquifer if full and streams, creeks and the river blows up as the slightest rain. I got a bit of wading fishing for trout in July while the rain stopped, but it came right back and not it Hurricane season. I gave up fishing last year just about to refinish the inside of my garage. This year I about gave up fishing because it wont stop raining and the water is a high muddy mess.

Just seems like a long wait between hunting seasons with little to do. Luckily my daughter bought 20 chickens an now I get to build a chicken coop. At least I am not bored.

There have been years where the Upper Potomac has been unfishable for the entire summer due to high flows.

The last time I looked the USGS gauge at Point of Rocks was above the caution level of 4 feet. Usual summer height for mid August at POR is 1.75' or so.

All this rain is very annoying. I was wanting to try and put my nephew on some smallmouths when he visits next week, but it looks like there is nothing really wadable around here.

I haven't checked the Garrett/Allegany river flow gauges for a couple of years. Just checked many of them and you are right. All of them are unfishable and have been so for most of the past couple of weeks. Though some of the coldwater releases (North Branch & lower Savage) may be fairly clear they are still dangerously too high to fish. Both those rivers are nasty to fish even at lower flows. I've aged out of fishing either of those rivers. You don't get to be 72 by being a dumb arse.

For years I can hardly wait for the Susky above Harrisburg to get to summer low flow so I can canoe fish for jumbo smbass. It may never get to summer low flow this year.

July set a record at BWI Marshall Airport (my backyard) for rainfall, it has been a very wet summer in addition to the traditions fish patterns seem to be much later in the year... Very hopeful this fall has beautiful warm weather deep into November/December for a productive fall season...

Not only are fish patterns late but my garden is late too. During normal years I get my first cherry tomatoes around July 4. This year I'm still waiting. Some should turn red in a week or so.
