  • Rocky Gorge continues to surprise me

I was out early on Friday morning. I launched at 06:00 from Brown's Bridge. There were clear skies and slightly cooler temperatures than we had been having (air temp of 53).

I went right back to the same spots I fished two weeks ago and threw the same lures that attracted a suspected pike as well as hooked into a monster LMB. This time, the only ting that I was catching were some very ambitious Crappie. Looks like I need to spend a lot more time on that water to try and figure things out.

All things considered, it was a great way to spend 6 hours instead of being at work.

The gorge treated me very well on Saturday with some quality bass and my first northern. I’ve wanted a pike for as long as I’ve been fishing and couldn’t be happier.

I’m continually amazed at the quality “northern” species of fish people pull from Maryland waters. Well done.

That is awesome. You accomplished what I set out to do. If you don't mind giving away your secret, what did you catch that pike on?

A Rocky Gorge pike has become my white Whale. I will catch you Moby Dick.

While I won’t give you my exact bait because it is a little bit of a secret lol, I’ll tell ya that it was a large plastic swimbait. After catching some bass I decided to “go big or go home”. I don’t usually do that either. Just happened to be my lucky day.

Interesting. A couple of weeks ago, I had a pike follow a large spinnerbait back to my kayak.

            Thank you

Great job guys! I caught my first few Northern Pike out of Rocky Gorge a few years ago as well. Looks like they are thriving in there. All of mine have come on spinner baits.
