  • Columbus Day - Rocky Gorge

It was Columbus Day and I had the day off from work. This is a dumb holiday. I'm happy to not work, but pretty much anything else would be better to celebrate than Christopher Columbus discovering the West Indies.

I slept in until 8:30 AM!
The weather looked overcast and calm.
I got the kayak loaded on the trailer and launched at Rocky Gorge around 10:30 AM.
Lots of cars and trucks at the ramp, so I guess lots of people had the day off.
Noticed that some lousy human beings did some illegal dumping on the WSSC property. Looks like these humans dumped 2 pickup truck loads of old roofing materials behind what is normally a locked WSSC gate.
Water was very high, still warm and comfortable.
I fished my normal areas with nothing to show for it.
    Did spot some sunfish/bluegills.
Did spook some fish that were near shore in the shade.
Had a couple of bass follow my lures, but not eat them.
Had a pike follow my jerk bait back to the kayak.
    Saw 2 beavers.
Saw 1 water snake slithering along.
Saw a Police boat with a gas powered motor and flashing blue lights.
The Police boat went past me up the reservoir and a while later passed me again heading back the other direction.
    Pleasant day for kayaking.
Should have brought my fly rod.
Should have brought my sonar unit.
    Fished for about 5 hours.

Thanks for the report. Things should start to heat up in about a month there.

Great report, too bad the Fishing didn’t match your eloquence.
