  • Caught My First Snakehead And More

I finally hooked and landed my first snakehead after several short strikes and thrown hooks. Now I know why people really like catching these amazing fish. They are challenging to catch, put up an exciting fight, are tricky to deal with after you land them, and they are delicious. I'm trying to get in one more trip before they shutdown for the season. Here's a link to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFGs...Vayq7&index=40.

Looks like the Bass population in Blackwater are not adversely affected by the SnakeHead

I actually caught twice as many bass as snakehead. They are currently doing studies on the population there. It will be interesting to see the results.

Two years ago, a friend caught 8 LMB in a row in a narrow channel, and afterwards my third cast I landed a 31.5" SH.

I think they co-habitat well. As always survival of the fittest, i'm sure LMB eat SH fry, and SH eat LMB fry.

I have yet to catch a lmb in blackwater. However, I have only fished it a few times. Where do fish winter there? It's so shallow.

That's funny, because a buddy and I did the same exact experience a couple years ago. Two big, open pond areas were connected by a narrow, deeper channel and we busted a ton of largemouth out of it. We probably caught a dozen and a half between us, plus 3 catfish, and one small snakehead, on x-raps. After that bite died, I went up into one of the ponds and caught a 28" striper, in the middle of July, off a mat of duck weed.
