I'm terrible at cold water fishing. Last weekend I was at the OBX and had an opportunity to try for some January fish at a shallow fresh water pond. Air temperature was 57 degrees.
This pond is known to have bluegills and some small largemouth bass. I enjoy hitting this pond for relaxing, quick, trips. Usually with the fly rod.
The day was too windy, so I had spinning gear.
This was the lure of choice, a Blue Fox spinner, size 1.
Picked up a bluegill. This pond produces very dark colored bluegills with purple and copper colorations.
Then picked up some small largemouth bass.
Unusually successful January fishing trip for me. Solid action for about an hour of fishing.
