  • Prespawn bass, pickerel

Caught a few nice bass in a small lake the past couple weekends, most over 2 pounds, a few over 3lbs, all very chunky like they've been eating well. They seem to be staging for prespawn in 4-6 feet of water along drop offs that go from 0 to ~10 feet. Most of the bass we got on crankbaits. With the continued warm weather I'd expect they should be feeding heavily this upcoming weekend and beginning to spawn very soon.

Also got a lot of pickerel, some looked completely spawned out some looked like they have just been gorging themselves, including a 25.5" 5.0 pounder I got... I could clearly make out the outline if a 7-8" crappie in it's belly and it had the tail of another fish sticking out of its gullet.

    3 lb 10 oz bass:

Very nice. Freshwater is my go to spring fishing spot for the exact reasons you’ve clearly shown us. Great detail here as well.
