Forgot to mention I use braid with a short leader on my Senko rod. Many reasons but main one is that braid will float initially. If it’s calm you can follow the line from rod tip to where the lure is sinking. A predominant number of bites happen on this initial sinking and it can range from a tiny ripple in the line, the sinking pulls line away from your rod tip and sometimes it speeds up slightly (I try to hold rod still when the lure is in a sink phase), or it moves left or right. It’s not always this subtle. When I get really excited is when I feel a single “tick” in the rod and then nothing. This is a good sign of a larger fish inhaling the bait and not moving as it gets ready to enjoy its lazy meal. The tick is the inhale.
