I hit Fletcher's Boathouse for most likely the last time this season for the Shad run.
The water was dingy and stained, with about 1 foot of visibility. Last week before the rain, the River was much clearer, with visibility of nearly two feet and a much prettier green color.
The fishing was slow....one 15" Hickory Shad in 2 hours plus only one more bump. Probably the run is winding down, only a few small splashes up top, River Herring, I'd guess.
I did get to test test my new "Shad" rod, a 7'-6" ML St. Croix Triumph that replaces the much missed 7'-6" Loomis GLX I broke in a fall two years ago. It's a tad heavier than the Loomis was, but also 1/3 the price.
A little "flexy" under the reel seat but all-in-all, it's a nice fishing tool. I'm looking forward to those 200 fish days, that are in its future.
So it's take the shad bag and darts out of the car, store the rod, and get ready to start hitting the Tidal Creeks with the canoe in the next couple of weeks to give the Perch a workout.
