With bad winds and costal flooding forecast for saltwater I decided to head back to St Mary’s Lake, hoping the water wasn’t to muddy. The water is up maybe 3-4” from normal but it was surprisingly clear. The wind was blowing but there was shelter along the shore and periodic misting made for a chilly morning. I started with white Gulp, only 1 crappie. Chartreuse, same result. My Senko got a few taps but no solid hookups before I lost the whole leader setting the hook hard on a stump. Big nose spinner, no love today. Finally I put on a green pumpkin Yamamoto grub. That was the magic ticket. Got half a dozen bass, 3 pickerel and a beautiful 11” crappie on it in an hour.
The lake was starting to get a little crowded for my taste so I bailed around 9. It was an enjoyable change of pace from chasing stripers.
