  • Potomac Snakehead 6/1/13

I launched today at Pohick bay at around 10 am. Many people were out today on boats and the cicadas were all over the place and in the water. Anyway I caught my first snakehead ever on my first cast in the lilly pads at 24'', the rest of the day was a bust. I failed to get 2 fish that hit the topwater frog that were snakeheads (saw them swim by after) and two that I did not see. I left at 5 and just cleaned the fish. The heat was brutal but the one fish was worth it.

Oh also I forgot to bring scissors today so I had to rip out the gills with my hands and it wasn't fun.

Well done Minh, glad you got one. It has been a tough year so far for the snakehead. Last year seemed much easier to land them.

Maybe the cooler spring has them running behind schedule.

Congrats. I still haven't hit the water this year. Things keep coming up or the weather was bad.

Nice work, that thing looks much fatter than the 24" snakie I caught earlier this year.

Thanks, although you would definitely need a hatchet or something to spit the head. It took a good 10+ whacks with a large cleaver to split it.

Shady, this one had roe but didn't eat it because I had no idea and split the sack spilling eggs everywhere so I just washed it off.

Don't say that bro! That is an awesome effort! It doesn't matter how or what you used to hold it up, the end result looks mouth watering good!

How did your family like it?

Thanks it was difficult to get it in the right position because of its length and weight especially with a flimsy coat hanger (grabbed what was on hand). Although I kind of cheated in the end and finished the other side on the grill instead of the coals.

My family loved it and am considering buying a rack like yours at walmart because I need to get swimbaits and more frogs for snakeheads whenever it may be. Oh and can you tell me what it was called?
