Fished Mariner's park on Friday . It was a family kayak (paddling) trip. It really wasn't a fishing trip but I've never been here before so I brought some gear. Glad I did. We paddled out to the main river but never went under the rail bridge. Once out of the creek from the ramp we headed up stream. The main river was very off color, and almost muddy in most places. In a few areas where the was a lot of SAV there was better clarity. I tried trolling a little in the main river with no hits. We ventured up into some of the smaller creeks. These areas had good growths of seagrass along bank, and spatterdock. The water was also clearer. In one area my brother in law yelled I just saw a bass . So I started casting a sexy shad color spinnerbait. Within about 20 minutes I had caught 3 nice 3 lb. largemouths. I also swung and missed on 2. They were essentially carbon copies of each other. The were tight to the spatterdock or seagrass.
On the paddle back to the put in, I cast to a laydown and got a decent sized channel cat on the spinnerbait.
It was a fun outing. Nice paddling and fishing.
Here's an update with some pics of two of the Largemouths.
