  • Rocky Gorge 6/29

I was able to get out on the yak for a few hours this afternoon.

The bass took a storm shad.

I must have dragged this crappie for a while before realizing he was on my lure.

We fished Rocky Gorge today for about 5 hours, only bluegill and baby bass. I think that was the nail in the coffin for RG in the eyes of Cowkid2, all she could say was, "I told you we should have gone to Tridelphia."

We tried crank baits (Flicker Shad, Bomber A, Rattle Trap), drop shot, roostertail, dragging spinners...nothing seemed to turn the fish on. The only decent bass that even acted interested was just following a bluegill my daughter had on the line.

I think RG fishes differently than Triadelphia. What part of the Reservoir were you fishing? You need to cover a lot of water since RG is so long.

Lower end, Supplee Lane up past Scott's Cove.

They definitely fish differently...wish I had RG figured out, it's a bit closer. Have you caught any walleye in RG?

I have caught many perch, crappies, bass and some catfish. No smallmouth, walleyes, or pike yet. Only a small striper. I hear twister grub jigs near the dam will work for walleyes.

I hear Triadelphia may be closing for 2 years for dam construction btw.

Wow, first I heard of that. Are they going to drain it?

No, but from what I understand it will be closed for about 2 years starting next spring.

The only place to fish will be Rocky Gorge during that time.

What are they going to "construct"? It's not really big enough for hydro electric, is it?

I heard they were going to close it last year or the year before. I know in the past they have lowered the water level to work on Brighton Dam and things were closed. No bueno.

Didn;t they just do that at Triadelphia a couple years ago. I was closed for a couple years if I remember right in the mid 2000's

Apparently the fishing was very good when Triadelphia opened back up. With the lower water level, a bunch of plants/shrubs/trees grew and provided lots of new cover for the fish to hang more shallow.

Will probably be headed out tomorrow during the rain. The fishing is always good during cloudier conditions there, so things should be fun

Plan is to fish laydowns, flooded timber, and backwater creeks with spinnerbaits and plastics/jigs while trolling a crankbait.

Sounds like a good plan Perchy! Do you really live in Arlington? That's a ways to drive to hit Rocky Gorge.

Yep but I live close to 66/495. It usually takes about 35-45 min with no traffic up 495 and 29 and it's the closest place I can moor a kayak.
