  • Saint Mary's Lake 6/29

I just bought a PA and tried it out on St. Mary's Lake. On the water at 5:30 and quickly headed up towards the dam end of the lake. Bass we're very receptive to a 4" grub and pumpkins green Senko's until around 8:30. After that I went with a Carolina rig in deeper water but the pace had definitely slowed. Ended up with about 20 bass and one yellow perch in 5 hours of fishing.
I had only fished this lake a couple of times in my canoe which I found hard to do - slow and the wind blew me around too much. What a revelation it was to be in a kayak. I will be back soon to explore the large portion of the lake I haven't visited.

Is there a lot of submerged vegetation there? Any other kayakers? I have been thinking of going there.

The water is in perfect condition (well at least before the storm tonight) with just a light stain and little grass to speak of. Some short stuff on the bottom, but nothing floating as far as grasses. There is some submerged wood and standing trees in sections of the lake, but that just makes for more places to try. In general just a nice open lake with lots of shoreline.

Probably 10 or so kayaks and canoes when I was out and maybe a dozen bass boats (all electric lake). Good sized lake so it didn't feel crowded.
