  • Little Seneca Lake 4 of July

Fished little Seneca in the morning from 7-11. Once again I had the dropsies. I had 5 bites, 4 fish on and only got one into the boat. all my fish and bites came very shallow in the back of one cove. Generally near wood. In this particular cove , bluegills had been spawning. There were lots of various sizes. K
I'm guessing the bass were munching them.

All my bites came on a spinnerbait.

I got a picture of the one, I haven't loaded from the camera yet. Will post later. Nothing to brag on. A solid 15" keeper.

I played with settings on my ff. I tried to get a reading on a thermocline but never saw one.

The wind really started blowing. There were white caps by time I left.

We went there Saturday for the 1st time. Real nice place to kayak and fish. That has to be the clearest water i've ever been in. Probably a good thing too with all the trees and stumps just under the surface. My GF got a 20" 4 pounder and I got a 16" 2 pounder and that was it. Heard that wind was rippin on Friday and they had to tow a lot of the jon boat rentals back in cause they could not make it back in the wind.

So I've always rented a kayak and fished the coves across the lake from the dock. Now that I've got my own 'yak I'll need to put in either at the bridge or the boat launch. Which is easier to access and provides better fishing spots?

70% of the time I put in at bridge and fish the ten mile creek arm or the lake. Mostly because I just don;t have to paddle as far. The arm where the townhouses are also hold good amount of fish and has some excellent structure.

Wind was really whipping on Friday. There were whitecaps on the lake.

I was out there on Sunday afternoon till sunset. I was seeing the thermocline at 21 feet. To pick it up I needed to be in about 40 feet of water and then I would crank my sensitivity up to 90%. It is a rather subtle thin line on my Humminbird 346c DI. If you are in shallower water with a lot of other targets it is really hard to see it.

Best fish of the day (all the fish I got were at least 15' down):
