    Trolling motor

In Delaware as soon as there is a motor on it it needs to be registered. This even includes a rubber raft.

In De the dnr handles boat registrations and they have "agents" that provide the service. I use a local marine store that handles boat registrations for de and fishing licenses as well.

I don't know what other states do for sure but I purchased a used boat from nj and I thought I read that the dmv does there registrations.

It would probably be helpful to mention what state you are in.

      Maryland is about the same.
Any motor at all requires registration at your local MD DNR Service Center.

If you purchased the boat in MD, bring your receipt and you can avoid paying the excise tax. Otherwise a 5% excise tax will be assessed on the vessel's value as stated in the BUC Used Boat Price Guide. There is a minimum of $5.

You should bring your boat title and proper identification.

If you cannot get to a DNR Service Center, you can do the registration by mail.
