  • Narrow flush mount rod holder

My kayak is an Ocean Kayak Malibu two XL that I had gotten from someone for a good deal. I've been outfitting it for fishing since it's the hull I wanted with the added bonus of getting to fish with 2 instead of just 1 should I want to.

I'm having a problem though finding what I'd like to use for flush mount rod holders is that my kayak only has 2 inches of flat space on the gunnels to fit the holders in. I found some that are really nice and fit where I want them, but they are open bottom. I've tried epoxying a piece to the bottom so they don't let water into the boat while I'm paddling or if I lean too far, but they aren't 100%.

Does anyone know of flush mount rod holders that are made for narrower gunnels and has a closed bottom to the holder?

I've never used them but Scotty makes a flush mount for use with their rod holders.

There are flush mounts that are sealed on the bottom, but not sure which will fit. Some just have cheesy plastic caps. I don't like flush mounts. I would recommend going with Scotty 244 and add your choice of rod holders. Or gt175 gear tracs with mighty mount scotty adapters should also work to add some rod holders. Gt175 with mighty mounts will be pretty expensive compared to just a 244 flush deck mount, but I like really that setup on my outback and I think I am about to purchase a second set to mount my extended trolling rod holders out front on my outback.

Yes there are flush mounts that are sealed at the bottom, but non that I've found are narrow enough to fit. I have the 3 hole traditional pattern ones that were placed as far up as possible from the stern, but it's a stretch even for my long arms to reach them all the way in the back. I need one that doesn't have the triangular taper mounting, I need it to be 2" wide at the widest, and most aren't that narrow.

I'm not looking to add scottys or that style on top even if the mounts are flush mounts. I have 2 mounted to the bow section already, i need something different for the stern section.

I should be getting some flush mounts tomorrow that I think are pretty narrow. I'll measure them when I have them in hand.

Actually I found the dimensions online. 2.3" x 4". Sorry wider than you want.
