  • Night time lighting requirements

I will preface this post by noting that I do not use my kayak in the dark, so I do not worry about legal lighting requirements. But I believe that many Snaggedline members do like to fish early in the morning or after dusk such that lighting is necessary to meet Coast Guard requirements. I viewed this interesting video from a kayak magazine editor, who provides some helpful advice about lighting.

You should use your own judgment on interpreting whether your lighting system is in full compliance with Coast Guard requirements and whether you choose to meet the letter of the law and not just the intent of the law.

Thanks for the post, John. I knew the VISICarbon light I use meets the USCG requirements when under way, but I was not aware it feel short when anchored...
