I fish in the bay after 30 years of fishing fresh water. My reels get clunky fairly quickly and theyre not cheap. I rinse them with tap water after every trip.

How often do you lube your reels?

Depends on how often you go but I will usually oil them once every 3 months or so and a full detail clean 1ce a year. 2 times if I have dunked them or had heavy salt spray on them.

What kind of reels do you have? And are they designed to be used in freshwater or saltwater?
As for your original question how often do I clean/lube them? Probably not as often as I should. If they are lucky I'll do it once a year. If they start acting up though, I'll usually clean them sooner than later. Otherwise, it's just a light rinse under the hose and they are good to go for a long while.Brian
