What type anchor?

i bought an 8# mushroom, because i was concerned that the 1.5# folding grapnel style would get permanently stuck in rocks. i only used the mushroom at OC and it held well in fast current and at one point, i did anchor and successfully weigh anchor at the rip rap at the bridge-base near hooper's.

for moving around and trying different, nearby spots, i tried hoisting the mushroom up, but letting it dangle. it's a little heavy for this and is serious drag if it's dangling in the water or waves.

is the 1.5# folding grapnel the way to go? does it come loose if you anchor in rip-rap? and what are the odds that it will hold at fishy depths at the BB?
