  • Bow-mount trolling motor depth?

I've run a transom mounted motor for several years, converting to a bow-mount this season. My boat is a 2015 NuCanoe Pursuit. With the transom mount, I always set the depth to as shallow as possible with the blades not breaking the surface and no cavitation, so maybe 2-3" below the surface when the blade of the prop is vertical. I never trimmed the shaft of the transom mount.

With the bow mount, it's a GPS/foot pedal steered unit, and because it's in front of me I plan to make it as short as possible so it doesn't get in the way of casting. Currently the motor has a ridiculously long shaft @ 54", so even if I don't make it "as short as possible" it's gonna need shortened.

Anyway---on a bow mount, is it the same general rule re: depth? It feels like maybe it should be a smidge deeper since it's pulling not pushing but really I've got no idea. Anyone care to chime in?
