  • Lighting up my Outback

I got this idea from obxrat back at the Point Lookout meet and greet, I put 2 live well LED lights in the hull of my Outback. One behind the mesh pocket and one to the right of the peddals. It does a nice job of lighting up the area in front of me at night. Nice for unhooking fish and tying knots at night.

They run off of 8 AA batteries in a battery pack with a 9 volt style connector on it. I have it hard wired for now but I will add a switch as soon as I candecide were I want it.

I do need to do a little ajustment to the one on the right, it blinds me a bit.

Cool. Did you drill holes and run the wire from the inside?

Hmmm... I think a night fish might be in order.

Yes, drilled holes and ran a small bead of silicone to seal them tight. They have a big nut that tightens them down from the inside.

Got the lights from West Marine only $11.00 each.

Hey, anybody load up one (or two) of those 7 Ah batts with a strong 12-volt light behind you on maybe a 4-foot pole for some real illumination?

I have a bait light for catching shad on SML and I use the same battery... works pretty well. I put a bank sinker on the bottom of it, let it down on a slope and let the green do its thing. Sometimes we'll see bigger shadows but so far only cast netted a few bass. I always hope it will draw some bigger fish in too.

Now... if I could just figure out a way to keep the shad alive!

I like this set up but too much light for me at night. Do they have red lights?
                Used to fish more.

i didn't see any red lights but I really wasn't looking for them. I have seen different types of red LED lights but most are strip lights.

I am thinking about adding another light behind the mess pocket. It floods the area around my feet without shining light in my eyes.
