  • Putty for Mounting Transducer in Hull

Was looking for a way to mount my transom mount transducer in my Outback when I ran across this.

Looks fast and easy. Gonna give it a try.

I was going to use that foam template where you fill it with marine goop and then place the transducer in it. Guess I don't have to fuss with that. Just use the putty.

I used duct seal back in March to make a wet well system for my down imaging transducer- works fine and is secure- in a wet well system everything works, temp, side scan, split fire, etc.

Would you guys post a photo of the wet well putty set up? That is interesting.

I didnt use the wet well method. I just stuck a blob of duct seal on the inside bottom of my yak and then firmly pushed the transducer into the blob. Works fine like this. If you use the wet well method, does that mean you are removing the transducer each time, or does it still stay in the kayak?

                      Thanks for the write-up, jj.

Is this wet setup best for side-scan transducers only?

Is the box "better" than a transducer/putty setup for a non-side-scan transducer?

I don't think it's necessary nor "better" for traditional down scan transducers. Because the unit is in contact with the plastic bottom the sonar signal can easily pass through to the water. Since the side scan is not in contact with the side of the kayak there may be signal loss. Adding a wet well bridges the transducer to the side and then to the surrounding water. It does need to be set below the waterline.
