So I installed this last September.. and tested on numerous
trips. After the "ice breaking" at Beachwood a couple of weeks ago I thought it was worthy of sharing.
Basically.. you are taking a section of PVC... cutting out a lengthwise section.
Heating it up in the over... shaping it over the kayak..
Sticking it to the kayak with double sided heavy duty tape.

My installation was less involved for my needs.. and easier to shape.
I have been really happy with the end result and have had no problems....
I ran out of caulk in the bottom picture... to fully seal the unit.
You really don't need caulk. I used Locktite Marine Caulk..
