  • Personalizing my kayak

I was doing some cleaning around the house and found an old-school name plate (at least several decades old). I mounted it on the front of my Native Watercraft Manta Ray 11. This is probably the only kayak around with that old style of identification.

I've used a Brother Label maker to personalize each of my kayaks:

The labels are waterproof. The above sticker has been on my Ultimate 12 for 3 years. No peeling or fading.

In the stern area, I placed another with my address and phone number.

    I hope it's never used!

After winning the Hobie Outback in the CBKA tournament raffle, I named it Lady Luck and ordered decals...I think that makes it pretty personalized...

Yes. I've seen it and it looks really nice, Ron.

The only other personalization I've done is to add a FSFF decal to the each side of the bow of my Ultimate 12:

A little backstory on my Ultimate 12. Like Ron, I won a kayak at the CBKA raffle. I think it was 2014. At the time they raffled two boats and I won a new Jackson Coosa. It was a nice boat but I never really enjoyed paddling it. The Coosa at that time was considered a river boat with a significant hull rocker. It didn't track well in the tidal waters and ponds I enjoy. After holding it a couple of years and using it only a handful of times, I sold it and used the money to buy the Ultimate -- a less expensive kayak, but one better suited to my wants. I've since used the Ultimate more than any of my kayaks. So I consider it the boat that I indirectly won in a CBKA raffle.

            Michael,

The label lasted longer than the Hawg Trough! My original one broke in half -- which actually would have suited me well given most of the fish I catch.

However, I bought another and put my name on it. And I'm pleased to report that I used it this past Saturday to measure my first Severn pickerel in 3 years:

It's good to see that they've returned.

Another labeling trick is to use the return address mailing labels that various organizations send to you. Stick one on each of the paddle halves. They last for several months.
