  • Adding Top Loading Gear Track

I recently added two forward mounted rod holders (Yak Attack Omega Lock n Load) to my Native Falcon 11. I used them on the existing gear track but I kept bumping the rod holders with my paddle. This weekend, I am planning to add some GTTL175 Top Loading Gear Track a little farther forward on the kayak so the rod holders do not interfere with my paddle and vice versa. This gear track claims that I will not need to get under the hull to secure the bolts and that I should seal the drill holes with marine sealant (the type I purchased says it takes 5-7 days to cure).

If anyone has any advice, I welcome it.

    Thank you.

Rob - When I installed the gear tracks in the cockpit area on my Falcon 11, I was able to reach through the front hatch with a socket wrench so I could tightly bolt the tracks to the gunwales. Your arms are probably not as long as mine but it would still be fairly easy to get in there to make a tight connection. If you cannot do it yourself, ask a buddy to hold the socket wrench while you tighten the bolts from above.
