    That's how I made mine except i used a Velcro cable tie ($2.50 for 25) instead of the cable clamp. They work great!

      i recommend not using the S-Biner as i used them on the yak and they rusted instantly. it would no longer hold the clip down. i also tried the cheap aluminum carabiners , but the spring/clip inside in not stainless, so rusted and failed too. had to go with the more expensive marine grade stainless

        Here's mine. That's a nylon tie on a velcro strip. Works great.

          I use brass clips with no rust issues over the past 3 years

            I use SS key rings or wire ties velcro'd to the rod and then phone cord and brass snaps... no issues so far!
