Thanks for the review. Do you use braid? If so, how well did the leader knot got through the micro guides? A lot of rods are using them now, but I've been reluctant to try anything with micro guides until I hear how they work with a braid to mono connecting knot.

Honestly I tied the lure directly to the braid. maybe that is why i didn't catch many fish. But the water isn't exactly clear so idk. I will use a leader with rockfish though.

Thanks for the review Matt. I am looking for the right opportunity to try out my new CarrotStix rod. Those mircroguides are even smaller than I expected. In reply to Bill's question, the top few guides are so small in diameter, I don't think a knot will pass through. That means using short leaders.

My CarrotStix is a 6'7" MH spincasting rod. I plan to use it primarily for light tackle jigging for rockfish (CBBT, rips, Bay Bridge pilings, etc). I imagine I will use it more often from my power boat than on the kayak.

I do not reel the leader into the guides if I can help it with the carrot stick. If you break off... make sure you don't reel in past the guides either. Stringing those guides while bobbing around and the wind blowing is tough work with a 7ft rod. You get used to it though and for the increase in sensitivity, it's worth it!

I have the 7ft MH casting version rated up to an ounce. Stick with 20lb flouro and a 6 turn surgeon's knot to join them. I use 15lb or 20lb braid on mine. Casts futher, less resistance, more sensitive... all that jazz.

Good luck guys!!! But be warned... once you get the hang of it you'll have trouble fishing any other way!

Doesn't the carrot feel like it could snap on big fish? I have the MH and it feels weak compared to my GL3 MH. It did handle a 28" rock at the BB but that fish did not put up a fight at all.

The Carrot XH at the price of $75 is making me think of getting it for CBBT/saltwater use. I'm in the market for another rod and so far it's the Trevalas S MH but if the Carrot XH can handle CBBT then I may consider it.

I only want to carry 2 rods when I go fishing. GL3 MH for all around and something else to handle heavy lures/fishes.

I have some buddies that are hardcore freshwater large mouth bass fishers, and they love the carrot stix, the only down side to them is that they will break off the first 6 inch or so from so many hard hook sets. Other than that they have no bad comments about the rod.

Came home to a big cardboard tube on my front porch! My Carrot Stix rod came today! I went with the 6'9" MH and got a Shimano Citica 200 G6 to put on it. Spooled up with 20lb powerpro and completed with 3/4 spankin stripers jighead with chartreuse BKD.

Nice setup (and a great choice of bucktail too)

what would you be targeting at cbbt? that would be the difference. The carrot stix would work well for rock, spades, triggers, croaker, and juvie Black drum. If you were targeting flounder, tog, sheeps, bull black drum and reds you may want to consider a heavier rod than the carrot. When the tide is running it takes 8oz or more to hold bottom. If you are trying to work bucktails over the tubes when the tide is running 4oz is just about as light at you can go (to vertical Jig drift). The trevala S mh works very well with alot of weight. I had 14oz on that rod at one point with no fear of snapping it. My advice would be to figure out what your target species is and the method you are going to use to catch said species. Once you get that down picking a rod is easy.
