  • Scotty mount install on an ocean kayak..

My neighbor has a smaller Ocean Kayak that does not have access to the inside of the hull. He wants to install 2 scotty mounts but we're a little unsure of the best method to install these.

West Marine suggested that we pop rivet them but I was a little concerned about rivet failure, especially if he hooks a big fish.

Any of you guys install mounts like this and if so what would you suggest the best method to be?

    appreciate any feedback. Thanks guys

You can get the fullback from YakAttack, make your own (I think palmetto kayak did it), use SS screws and hand tighten, well nuts, or install a hatch. They are all pretty easy solutions but have vary in the room for error area.
    Used to fish more.

I don't think stainless steel rivets will fail. Otherwise, I would go with what Redfish suggested, wellnuts. They also sell those at West Marine. The wellnuts self seal.
