The guys at backyard boats are good people Dennis will steer you in the right direction. Just bought an outback from him and im glad I did business with them. If your fresh from tx to Md you should set your sites on a big striper at susky flats or the bridge. Welcome to the land of pleasant living.

Very nice, I can't wait to get my first yak!
I am very interested in fishing for stripers. I already started reading about the Jamboree in April. Stripers sound like a lot of fun and I can't wait to land my first big boy.Cliff Williams

Striped Bass are the lifeblood of the Chesapeake Bay fishery- they are the one trophy fish that brings in the cash and DNR knows this. Folks travel from all over to charter boats to catch a big striper. What is strange is the undue influence that the commercial fishing sector has over sport fishing inside the DNR. What Maryland needs to do is to give Striped Bass their due and declare them a game fish just like largemouth bass."Lady Luck" 2016 Red Hibiscus Hobie Outback, Lowrance Hook2-7TS

welcome to Md! good choice of digs but i'm sure you're missing the beauty of Texas in the spring. i lived in Arlington, DFW for a few months and really liked it a lot.
but now that you're here, you may be interested to learn more about the spawning run of large rockfish into susky each spring. and besides potomac, i think you'll also find tidal bass fishing in the susky, joppatowne, and essex areas a little closer to home.
i'd generalize as you get a little saltier locations; rockfish and white perch are the popular target species. but farther south on the bay (patuxent and south and even more so to VA) and out at the ocean, there's more selection of species.

Thanks for the welcome! I do miss Texas during this time of the year but I can't complain about being here in Maryland. The weather has been great and the chance of catching new species of fish this spring has got me fired up.
During this time of the year I usually focus on Largemouth bass. What are some known areas for catching monsters this time of the year?Cliff Williams

i'm not an active bass fisher for long years now. i used to like to fish the ponds of harford county, above conowingo, and loch raven. loch raven as much for the total scene as the bass. and there's good bass fishing and scenery on the eastern shore as well.
but i think you're right in looking towards the potomac for big bass. one of the last assessments of our bass fisheries i saw had best weights/numbers in potomac. and despite being so close to such a large city, it has the scenery too. but if i could locate the big bass there, i'd be doing it myself good luck - look forward to a report.
