I do not see anything on Yak Attacks poles being USCG approved. The maker of the light did not have it on their info either. I have friends that have them and I think it's a nice design.
The Susquehanna flats Jamboree requires a USCG approved signal light"If you can't have fun doing it, it ain't worth doing." ... or you're just doing it wrong.

You only need a stern light at night. I'm not sure there is a USCG seal of approval ........ just has to meet the specs. I don't think I've seen a USCG approval on any light I've used on any boat over the years .........
I think most of the guys will be using the Visipole .......... I wouldn't worry about it ......

OK. cool. That's kind of open, "meet the specs"
I ordered a dive light with a white cap to add to riser pole.

from the horse's mouth :

check out rule 25,d. 1st time i heard this come up, i was certain they were wrong,...
but good sense says at least all-round white light, hand-held flashlight, and airhorn. i keep meaning to put an orange flare in my crate too.
i think the all-round white light complies with lighted lantern clause.
the reason i mention the hand-held is that lights sometimes all blend into a shoreline. with a handheld at the ready you may have better chance to wave it around and get the attention of a boat that seems unaware. and it's good to have if it's dark out anyway.
i would almost expect CG to give you a ticket if they thought your lights were unsafe, and leave you to straighten out in court if you disagreed.Last edited by Southerly; 03-25-2012, 07:41 PM.
