Keeping river film off yak hull

Whenever I take my boat up river, either Severn or South, I get stains on the hull. It comes off pretty easy if I have waxed it down good at the beginning of the season.

Do you guys wax your yaks to keep from getting a film on them?

Mine is scummy from Mattawoman creek trips- rinse it off with a hose when I get home but it still has the film- doesn't seem to affect anything- one day when I really have time I will turn it over and scrub it off-

Thats why I got a camo colored yak, the scum just blends in Seriously though, I still see it but have never paid it any attention. It is just going to get back in the water and wash it off or pick more up the next time.

That is big reason that I got the sand color and not yellow. I'll try a coat of wax when I get it and see what happens. Who knows, I may get .0001 mph faster.

I wash my yellow yak with soap/water after every outing. On occasion I treat the surface with Armorall. No stains.

Not sure if it helps with scum lines or not but it might help repel them.

I've seen the current videos about the various uses for WD40. They kind of reminds me of the "Miracle Tonic" salesmen in the 1800's.

I know for sure I keep it away from my guns and reels.

I have not tried WD-40, but a few weeks ago I sprayed silicone lubricant around the male end of two Scotty rod holders. Prior to that they had been stiff and difficult to reposition while in the kayak seat. A quick spray of lubricant with the excess wiped off, and the rod holders are smooth and easy to adjust again. I wish I had done that before.

just find a scummier location than last one to cover it up. seriously - i wouldn't spray anything on my yak that might give fish the wrong impression.

i like to think that i'm not too concerned with material objects, but i did wash the yak down with dish soap and water last weekend. it was disgusting and stinky and i often set food down on the sides. just too much.

simple green works good, a little dawn and water does also. i usually spray some 303 on the hull a couple times a season to protect the plastic from UV
