  • Kayak Storage

Really new to kayaking. I have a storage question. The best bet for me would be to suspend the kayak in the garage above the cars. I've read that it could damage a plastic yak. Any advice on garage storage?

    Thanks

I have a pulley system to pull my yak up to the garage ceiling. To spread the load, I use 2 inch nylon straps with a 6x12 inch piece of rubber mat about 3/4 inch thick. It is the kind of mat that you exercise on, made of dense closed cell foam.

I just stick the mat between the straps and the yak and hoist away.

    Hope this helps,
    John

      I use a rope/pulley system that I copied from here: http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/com...ad.php?t=78695

My kayak sits bottom down so I just used rope. The pics in the link show the kayak stored top down using pvc pipe support. It works great.

I hang my Outback under my deck and my NuCanoe sits on a small rack in the yard. I had a 2008 Outback hanging like that for 3 years and never had a problem.

He made it look so nice he doesn't ever want to take the yaks out and fish, it ruins the visual effect

Naw... everywhere I read said its fine. Mine stays outside leaned against the house with a tarp on it... no worries. And that's year round!
